The California Coast is close to home and one of my favorite places to photograph. I've made many images here over the years from the grand landscape to the abstract.

At The Base of Giants
One can't help but be at awe standing at the base of these giants. I photographed these Redwoods on the California coast during one of the worst fires in 2020, hence the strange blue 'fog',

Portal of Golden Light
While its tempting to photograph the sun through the portal, what I really love is the way the golden light kisses the wet boulders right at sunset and a low tide.  30.000s, Automated Frame Average
Waterfall on Sand
One could say this is two images in one vertical panorama, the waterfall at the top and the lighter sand leading into the darker water soaked at the bottom. Both are interesting in their own colors and texture but its the combination of the two that captured my attention.

Sunrise over Point Sur
When I saw that the forecast had heavy cloud cover yesterday morning I figured it would be a morning for shooting abstracts on the beach. But since I was already up and I decided to drive down the coast in the dark to what the weather was like farther south. When I got to this area with a view of Point Sur in the distance, the skies to the south east were clear with sunrise color coming through. I played with several compositions but this one one with the shrub was my favorite and thus added to my California Coast collection on my website.
Low Tide Reveals
I wasn't sure that this image was going to work as I had to get my camera practically on the ground to frame. Also, in the past I would have relied on focus stacking but these days I find myself disliking focus stacked images and instead prefer to use movements to get the most salient bits in focus and leave the rest out of focus. I do like how this turned out, but I definitely want to return to try other compositions.

This was about as much color as I got on the evenig of Presidents Day last week photographing the Callas. There were also a throng of photgraphers that had to be cloned out (hopefully not obvious).

Embers and Cloud
This is a very different composition from anything I've done at Point Lobos in the past. I love how the tree leans over, covered in moss and lichen. On a completely clear or overcast day the sky to the right would be too boring, but the hint of those breaking clouds adds interest. Also the moss reminds me of smoldering embers.
